New York, Mar 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rapper Lil Wayne has begun his 1-year sentence behind bars. He was sentenced on Monday, because he had a loaded weapon on his tour bus. He had been arrested in July 2007, and had subsequently pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession a weapon. His sentencing was postponed a couple of times, once due to dental surgery, and once due to a fire in a courthouse.
While he was being escorted by the police to his new lodgings, he bowed to his fans and supporters who had collected outside the court, to provide moral support to their favorite rapper. His lawyer Stacey Richman said that the rapper was well aware that he had to serve time behind bars, as an ordinary citizen, and not as a celebrity. “He knew what he had to do, and he’s doing it,” she said. Stacey Richman also said that Lil Wayne would be held in protective custody, but the Correction Department said that they had to still take a call on that.
Rapper Lil Wayne will remain behind bars at the Rikers Island jail complex. The rapper may not have to spend the entire duration of his sentence behind bars, as he might be released in eight months, on account of good behavior.
