New York, April 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In order to create awareness of eating-disorders, Galia Slayen decided to create life-size version of the famous children idol, Barbie. Slayen’s work stands at 6 feet with bust size of 39’’.

Slayen spoke with TODAY.com about her work. She explained that she developed the doll about four years ago when she visited a friend’s house. She said the friend’s mother who is an artist helped her in making the doll. She revealed that the doll was made of papier mache, wood and chicken wire.

On why she decided to craft such a doll, Slayen explained that she wanted to come up with a way to talk about eating disorders. She said society frowned on publicly talking about the condition. So as part of the maiden National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Slayen unveiled her doll to the Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. where she is a student.

The makers of the original Barbie doll, Mattel, have distanced themselves from the new image. A spokesperson of the company said that the doll “was never modeled on the proportions of a real person.”

The original Barbie doll weighs 7.25 ounces and stands at 11.5 inches.
