michael jacksons doctor LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) — Charges will be filed against Dr. Conrad Murray, the personal physician of Michael Jackson, and he is expected to make his initial appearance in court on Monday, his defense team said.

“Dr. Conrad Murray’s defense team is prepared to surrender him at the Airport Courthouse at 1.30 pm [PST],” his defense team said in a brief statement. It said Murray’s lawyer, Ed Chernoff, will hold a news conference outside the court after the arraignment.

On Friday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said it would file charges against Murray on Monday. “A case will be filed on Monday,” said Sandi Gibbons of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “Information on charges and the scheduled arraignment at the Airport Court will be released after the case is filed.”

After the announcement that Murray would be charged on Monday, his lawyer cancelled a planned news conference. “In light of the District Attorneys office announcement that Dr. Murray will be charged on Monday, we have cancelled media access until after arraignment,” Chernoff’s office said in a statement on Friday.

It is not clear if the Los Angeles Police Department will intervene and arrest Murray before he surrenders himself at the Airport Courthouse. In earlier statements, Chernoff had said that Murray agreed to surrender himself to authorities on Friday.

Jackson, who was 50, died at his Los Angeles home on June 25. The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled his death a homicide, mainly caused by the powerful anaesthetic Propofol.

U.S. media earlier reported that Murray is expected to be charged with involuntary manslaughter, which could send him to jail for a maximum of four years if convicted. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney said she could neither confirm nor deny the claims.
