Lawsuit filed claiming copyright breach by Cherl Cole
March 24th, 2011 - 1:34 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Mar 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The originality of Cheryl Cole’s hit “Fight For This Love” has been challenged.
The Sun has reported that Wardlaw Banks and Peermusic have sued Cheryl Cole and her producers for copyright infringement. The suit claims that Cole’s song copied part of its contents from another song “I Want You Back.”
The suit cites Sony, EMI and Universal as the other defendants. Seven other music companies have teamed up and filed a counter-writ alleging that there is no infringement of the song. The song was written back in 2008. According to the writ, the song was written by Andre Merritt, Wayne Wilkins and Stephen Kipner.
The counter writ claimed that Kipner and Merritt had not heard “I Want You Back” before but Wilkins worked on the song seven years ago. The writ alleges that Wilkins could not also remember the input that he made to the song. The decision on whether the song infringed on copyright would be determined by a High Court judge.
Ashley Cole is currently in the United States where she hopes to land a deal in Hollywood. She also has her eyes set on a role in America’s X Factor.
