Lavasa hosts its first Women’s Car Rally

‘Lavasa Women’s Drive’ to raise awareness and aid for cancer
Mumbai, March 25, 2009: Lavasa Corporation Ltd. will organize its first women’s car rally, titled ‘Lavasa Women’s Drive’ on Sunday, March 29, 2009. The rally will be flagged off by well known actor Ajay Devgan and model-actor Bipasha Basu from MMRDA grounds, Bandra-Kurla Complex and end at Lavasa’s town hall. Lavasa is free India’s first and largest hill city being developed by HCC (Hindustan Construction Company), and is coming up on 25,000 acres of land in the midst of the majestic Sahyadri mountains, an hour’s drive from Pune.
Lavasa Women’s Drive is a joint initiative with Bombay Times to raise awareness and aid for women’s cancer. The funds raised would be donated towards the Women’s Cancer Initiative of Tata Memorial Hospital, a non-governmental, non-profit organization aimed at creating awareness about cancer that affects women.
Commenting on this initiative, Anuradha Paraskar, Senior Vice President – Marketing, Lavasa Corporation Limited, said, “The woman of today is smart, intelligent and ever willing to take on new challenges in life. A car rally to the beautiful hill city of Lavasa amply brings out this spirit of the modern woman. It also brings about her desire to drive social causes. The Lavasa Women’s Drive is therefore supporting the women’s cancer initiative of Tata Memorial Hospital, to help educate and enlighten women about prevention and early detection of cancer.”
The rally will commence at Mumbai and cover a stretch of approximately 225 km of picturesque landscape and greenery all the way to Lavasa. There will be 15 checkpoints en-route. On completion, all participants will be served refreshments before they wind their way back to Mumbai.
The rally is expected to have approximately 300 cars and only women will be allowed in the participating teams. Each team will comprise of a driver, a navigator and two supporters. The winner of the rally can look forward to a prize worth Rs 1 lakh, which includes a 2-night/3-day trip to Bangkok.
