Dec 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Larry King received a royal send off on Thursday evening first on television when the final episode of his show was attended by his friends like Donald Trump and Regis Philbin, U.S. presidents, celebrities and network news anchors. Later, he was felicitated at Wolfgang Puck’s spacious restaurant, in Spago in Beverly Hills where most of the people, directly or indirectly involved with the show gathered. They raised a toast not just to celebrate the end of the popular program ‘Larry King Live’ which completed 25 years, but the end of an era of broadcast news as well.
Bill Maher, along with Ryan Seacrest gave Larry King company all through the final one hour of the show. He declared that it was the end of a show, and “not the end of a man”. In reality, it was more than just an end of a show; it could be called an end of an era. As President Barack Obama appeared via satellite for congratulating Larry King, the U.S. President referred to him as one of the big-shots in the world of broadcasting. The President went on to refer that Larry King’s reputation was unparalleled. He said that what Larry King did was merely asking questions, but, the answers to those questions were simply astonishing. Those answers had a lot of information to provide to generations of Americans. They bestowed knowledge to people.
The news of the end of the popular program ‘Larry King Live’ has indeed left its regular viewers rather disappointed. The veteran talk show host will be replaced by Brit Piers Morgan, in January. The television icon has described his departure ‘as a bittersweet moment.’
