Lady Gaga is encouraging: Debbie Harry
March 22nd, 2011 - 9:26 am ICT by IANSLondon, March 22 (IANS) Singer Debbie Harry calls Lady Gaga a breath of fresh air in what she calls a conservative US music scene.
“Gaga is truly talented and slightly mad. I find her encouraging,” contactmusic.com quoted Harry as saying.
Harry, who is the lead singer of the punk rock band Blondie, feels that music in her country is conservative and artists like Gaga can help change it.
“It’s such a conservative period in the US. We have even had attempts at censorship, which I find appalling and terrible. Artists like Gaga are necessary during periods like this,” said the 65-year-old.
Harry, who used to hate the singer for copying her style, loves her wildness and sexuality. “I loved her wildness and sexuality. ‘Borderline’ was the material I found most interesting. She is a force to be reckoned with in the industry - and I commend that.”
