KTF Demands Reduced Fee For Movie Satellite Rights
June 15th, 2010 - 1:11 pm ICT by Sampurn WireJune 15, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): In Kerala, obtaining the satellite rights for Malayalam films has become a tough job as the producers charge an exorbitantly high price for it. Certain Malayalam channels have now asked for a reduction in the fee for satellite rights of movies.
The Kerala Television Federation (KTF), a new forum for the Kerala TV channels, was set up just two months earlier. This forum was basically formed to take up the problems, faced by the cine industry in Kerala.
In a press statement, general secretary John Britas and KTF president K.Madhavan said, “The current rate of obtaining the satellite rights for a Malayalam film is too expensive for the TV channels.”
A sub-committee was formed at a KTF meeting, which will discuss the matter with the other organizations such as the Kerala Film Chamber as well as the film producers. The federation has demanded that the satellite rights fee be reduced by 30 percent.
The KTF also decided to ask the state government to include the channels in the PRD advetisers’ beneficiary list. They also asked for a cut in the electricity charge from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB)
The meeting was attended by the representatives of various channels in the state. They include Vijay Babu, Jamaluddin Farooqi, K.P.Mohanan, K.P.Jayadeep, M.Venkitaraman, Baby Mathew and R.Sreekantan Nair.
