Kiefer Sutherland begins serving 48 days in jail over DIU chargesDecember 6th, 2007 - 5:35 pm ICT by admin
Washington, Dec 6 (ANI): Actor Kiefer Sutherland has begun serving his 48-day jail term for racking up a second drunken-driving arrest in three years.
The star of the Fox TV drama 24 has been ordered to serve the entire sentence at the Glendale City Jail before March 30, 2008.
The 40 year-old actor was caught by cops after making an illegal U-turn. When breath-tested by police, he reportedly blew twice the legal blood alcohol level of .08.
Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department revealed that Sutherland “will be assigned a work detail that will involve kitchen detail and laundry duty. There is no early release. It’s a must-do 48 days deal. The only person that can shorten the sentence is the judge, and I do not see that ever happening.”
The actor, who pleaded no contest in October to driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of .08, apologised for his misconduct.
“Im very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and Im deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on 24 and at 20th Century Fox. I appreciate the support and concern that has been extended to me these last weeks both personally and professionally, Usmagazine quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
