Los Angeles, Feb 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Filmmaker and actor Kevin Costner has told the Los Angeles Times that he believes that Western movie makers are lazy when the movies were made in the 50’s and 60’s.

Subsequently he believes that most of the filmmakers started coming out with what he termed “rubbish”. He believes it killed the interest of people in Cowboy movies.

Costner told the newspaper that, “Because mostly they’re not done well it was a very complicated time, and filmmakers tend to simplify them with the black hat, white hat. When they were enjoying their largest acceptance back in the ’50s and ’60s, filmmakers just got lazier and lazier.”

Costner also spoke about his 1990 movie, “Dances with Wolves”. He said the cost of the movie scared several financiers away. He indicated that he believed the film could be made with $15 million. He then went around looking for financial partners.

He couldn’t find any in the United States initially. He managed to raise $9 million of the amount from outside the United States. Orion was the only US company that was prepared to put anything into the movie. They gave him $4 million. The movie eventually did cost him $16 million with the remaining $3 million coming from him.
