Kerala girls to make documentary on gender issues
December 16th, 2010 - 4:24 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Dec 16 (IANS) The Kerala government has joined hands with film-maker Sanjiv Sivan to bring together 25 girls who will make a documentary video “Girls Unlimited”. The film will be based on their experiences as girls and the impact of gender issues on them.”These girls will be divided into five groups and each group will make a 10-minute film - that they will script, shoot and edit before delivering the final product. These would be combined to look as a single film,” Sanjiv told IANS.
The 25 girls, of age group 10-17, have been selected from 1,300 aspirants who applied for the project.
“The project brings together young women from across the social spectrum to voice their opinions and make short films about their experience of being a woman, and what impact the gender issues have on their bearing and growth as an individual in a society that has declared itself to be democratic,” added Sanjiv, who is the youngest son of veteran film maker Sivan.
A workshop will be conducted by eminent film personalities like Subhash Ghai, Javed Jaafri, Sharmila Tagore, Oscar winner Resul Pookutty besides the Sivan brothers for the girls later this month.
The film will be launched Dec 28, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy said here.
