Kenny Edwards Loses Battle With Cancer And Blood Disorder, Dies At 64

kennyAug 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Guitarist-singer and the founding member of “The Stone Poneys” country rock, Kenny Edwards died on Wednesday leaving his friends and family in mourning. The singer was 64 and is survived by his mother. His family released a statement on his website where they maintained that the singer passed away “peacefully” surrounded by love on Wednesday.

Reportedly, Kenny Edwards was fighting with cancer and blood disorder. He was diagnosed with the blood disorder TTP (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) and also had been undergoing chemotherapy for his prostate cancer. Kenny Edwards had collapsed earlier this month in Denver while he was on his tour with longtime musical partner and friend Karla Bonoff and he was airlifted to a hospital in Santa Barbara, near his home. Kenny Edwards shot to fame after founding “The Stone Poneys”, the group which launched Linda Ronstadt’s career. However, the band disbanded shortly after the release of its breakthrough hit, “Different Drum”.

The Grammy award- winning singer Linda Ronstadt in her interview said that Kenny Edwards was always a “beacon” to her and he introduced her to many stuffs about music. The singer said that she always valued Kenny Edwards’ opinion. Karla Bonoff, released a statement after the singer’s death where she maintained that Kenny Edwards had remained her teacher, her musical partner and best friend for a considerably long time.

Kenny Edwards’ co-singer and longtime friend Wendy Waldman expressed her condolence saying that she always esteemed Kenny Edwards as a great singer and songwriter. Wendy Waldman also added that the late singer was her main musical “ally” and chief songwriting collaborator.
