Kelly Clarkson Decides To Go Ahead With Jakarta Concert Despite Protests

clark1Jakarta, Indonesia, Apr 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former “American Idol” contestant Kelly Clarkson has found herself amidst widespread controversy owing to the fact that one of her upcoming concert in Indonesia has been sponsored by a cigarette manufacturing company. The much acclaimed musical artist is scheduled to appear in Jakarta’s Senayan indoor stadium on April 29.

The upcoming concert featuring the 27 year old singer, who is best known as the winner of the first season of the hit television singing competition “American Idol”, has been sponsored as well as promoted by the PT Djarum, which is a tobacco manufacturer, under the cigarette brand LA Lights. Due to this, the singer has attracted the ire of religious groups as well as health advocates who feel that if Kelly Clarkson decides to go ahead with the concert she would be regarded as the spokesperson of the tobacco industry. The protests against the tobacco manufacturing company sponsored concert has been so extensive that the musical artist has come under the fire even in various social networking sites.

However, Kelly Clarkson has reacted to the entire controversy through her own blog where she has made it very clear that she has no plans of canceling the show. Moreover, the singer has also emphasized that she had no idea about the sponsors associated with the concert but clarified that she does not want to disappoint her fans by terminating the show. The former “American Idol” winner also added that she herself never smoked and therefore does not advocate it. Meanwhile, Muslim groups in Indonesia have urged citizens to boycott the concert in order to showcase their protest in this regard.
