New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) American singer Katy Perry seems to be living the spirit of forthcoming movie “The Smurfs” completely. After giving voiceover in the animated movie, she has got her nails painted with images of the popular blue animated characters from the movie.

“Smurf nails! Duh!,” Perry posted on social networking site Twitter. She even posted a picture with her tweet, showing off her ‘Smurf’ed nails.

The characters, Smurfs, were created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford. Now the movie “The Smurfs”, a Sony Pictures Animation production, will release for the first time in 3D. It will hit screens worldwide Friday.

Perry, 26, who tied the knot with British comedian Russell Brand in India last year, has given the voiceover for Smurfette in the movie. Her character is the only girl among 100 boys, and with her beauty, sweet voice, and charming personality, Smurfette makes all the Smurfs go gaga.

The “Firework” singer was chosen to lend voice to the character even before she delivered a single dialogue.

“They had done a blind test where they took certain voices from previous interviews and matched them with the character. They (the filmmakers) liked my voice without even knowing who it was, and when they found out it was me, they thought that would work out. My personality was just a plus!,” said Perry.

She says she found an affinity with the character she plays.

“They asked me to add my nuance to it. So I was able to be sassy and cute, a little mischievous and funny. It’s really interesting because I got to be a part of creating her character. It’s really fun…it’s basically my voice with some rocks thrown in it, like I had too many cups of coffee,” she added.

Perry also says the transition from a singer to a voiceover actress was a natural step.

“I use my voice every single day, and I feel very cartoony at times, just in the way I present myself. So It was a natural progression…something natural for me to do.”
