June 24, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): American singer Katy Perry had to have 17 stitches on her right leg as she fell down while dancing at a party after Sunday’s MuchMusic Video Awards.

Katy was in Toronto during the weekend to perform her hit ‘California Gurls’ on the MuchMusic Video Awards show. From there, she went to a local nightclub where she had the mishap.

On Monday, at 2:12 a.m. Katy tweeted, “I got 17 stitches later so don’t make fun of my dance moves tomorrow. Thanks Canada for the souvenir.”

Later in that day, she was seen performing on Live@Much. Katy wore a flesh-colored bandage under her right knee.

She tweeted again saying, “I am planning to get a candy cane walker made for the next performance. I will expect you all to dance for me.”

The 26 year old pop star is engaged to comedian Russell Brand.

Katy was born as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, but she is better known by her stage name. She adopted the stage name Katy Pary after signing for the Capitol Music Group in 2007, which was her fourth record label in seven years. She came up with her first Internet single, ‘Ur So Gay’ that year itself.

The singer is recognized for her peculiar and unconventional style of dresses too. She often combines bright colors and vintage fashion. She was seen frequently using fruit-shaped accessories, mainly watermelon, as part of her outfits.

Katy’s next album ‘Teenage Dream’ is set to be released in August 2010.
