Katie Melua fears for her family in troubled Georgia
August 10th, 2008 - 7:30 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug 10 (ANI): Georgian/British singer songwriter Katie Melua has expressed her fears for her mother and brother, who are in her troubled home country of Georgia.
Melua, 23, who is due to visit the republic in a fortnight, had called up her mom Tamari in capital Tbilisi on August 9, as the region spiralled into bloodshed.
Whoever settled anything with war? the sun quoted her as saying.
At the moment it seems to be a lot of posturing and the two sides showing each other how big their guns are.
I hope the violence can end before any more people are killed, she added.
What adds to her fear is that her uncle may be conscripted, even though her brother Zurab, 16, is still too young to fight.
The singer herself had lived in Georgia until she was eight, and is now based in Croydon, South London.
She is currently touring Germany, but is very worried about her relatives who remain in Tbilisi, on the doorstep of the breakaway region. (ANI)
