New York, May 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Katie Couric is reportedly close to agreeing a deal that will see her take up a daytime talk show at ABC. Katie is a former anchor at CBS.

The 54-year-old is reportedly negotiating a deal with ABC worth $20 million. According to the reports, Katie will also be given a major role at the news division of ABC.

CBS recently announced that Scott Pelley of “60 Minutes” will be the new anchor on the network’s Evening News program. The program has been struggling with ratings for some time.

TV Guide reported that relationship between CBS and Katie strained when her proposal to have a daytime show on the network was refused. The report said the network was only ready to grant Katie limited role on “60 Minutes” and “CBS Sunday Morning.”

When she finally decided to quit, Katie told People Magazine that, “I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News. I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years.”

Katie’s new show is expected to start airing in the United States in September of 2012.
