Kathy Bates: I should have made cancer battle public to help othersJanuary 6th, 2009 - 1:24 pm ICT by ANI
Washington, January 6 (ANI): Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has revealed that she now wishes she would have made her ovarian cancer battle public so that she could have aided others by creating awareness.
The Revolutionary Road star said that she could not bring herself to confront her fears in public during the ongoing fight with the disease.
“I shook all afternoon after I had gotten the news and I was going for more tests. I was sitting in my hospital gown and someone recognised me… I was like, ”I don”t wanna talk about that now”, Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
“But, had I to do it over again I think I would have been more public about it… I think it may have helped more people because it’’s such a difficult disease to diagnose early; I was very, very lucky, she added.
The two-time Golden Globe-winner, who is now a spokeswoman for Ovarian Cancer Foundation, further added that she wanted to help other women cite the cancer symptoms as early as possible.
She said: “(I want) to spread awareness about your body and trying to stay in tune with your body and get tested when you can for anything that doesn”t seem right. I have a PSA out that talks about the different symptoms you can be aware of.” (ANI)
