Mar 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After taking three months maternity leave, actress Katherine Heigl was due back on the set of Grey’s Anatomy recently to shoot the last five episodes of the season. She had taken the leave so that she and her husband, Josh Kelley, could spend time with the new baby girl Naleigh, they had adopted from South Korea in October. Naleigh is now 15 months old.

Although I had recently reported that Katherine Heigl was indeed returning to the show, apparently that actress had other ideas. The day she was due to return to the “Grey’s Anatomy” set, she simply did not show up. This left everyone up in the air for a bit, wondering what Heigl truly planned to do. Now it is clear she does not want to return to the show after all.

According to a report by chicagotribune.com, Heigl has announced that she wanted to leave Grey’s Anatomy so that she could focus on her movie career. She has recently starred in “27 Dresses” and “The Ugly Truth” and feels she is happier shooting film than the television show. The “Grey’s Anatomy creator has agreed to release her from her contract. Haigl’s representatives will be in negotiations with ABC for the final exit agreement.

This all comes as no surprise, considering the long history of issues that Heigl has had with the show. In July of 09, Heigl shared with David Letterman that she felt the working conditions on the set were intolerable. “Our first day back was Wednesday and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day,” Heigl told David Letterman during a visit to the “Late Show” on Monday,July 20, 2009 “which I think is cruel and mean.”
