Washington, Feb 20 (ANI): Hollywood actress Kate Winslet almost missed her Golden Globe winning role in The Reader, for the producers thought that she too busy with The Revolutionary Road to join the venture.

Film mogul Harvey Weinstein, whose company was behind the flick, and director Stephen Daldry approached many other actresses like Nicole Kidman, who fell pregnant during that time, Naomi Watts and Marion Cotillard, as they thought Kate was busy with The Revolutionary Road.

“Before Kate came onboard, Anthony Minghella, myself and (producer) Scott Rudin had a conversation. I said ”Scott, shes got Revolutionary Road. I think we should have insurance, Contactmusic quoted Harvey as saying.

“I had Marion Cotillard, the French actress, go to Germany and shoot a screen test. She was great. Then we contacted Naomi Watts. Shes available. Then we redid the conversation and said these people are available, Harvey added.

However, they settled for Kate, as director Daldry wanted to make The Reader with her.

“(But) Stephen Daldry wanted to work with Kate, Harvey said.

Meanwhile, Kate has already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for her performance as a concentration camp guard in The Reader.

She has also been nominated for the Best Actress honour at the upcoming Academy Awards. (ANI)
