Kate Winslet accepts damages from Daily Mail
November 3rd, 2009 - 10:53 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Kate Winslet has accepted 25,000 pounds (more than $40,000) in damages after the Daily Mail falsely reported in January she lied about her exercise regime. Her lawyers confirmed the news.
Her lawyers said she wanted an apology “to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise.” She herself was not present in the court on Tuesday when the case was settled.
Kate Winslet who was plump as a kid, is an outspoken critic of excessive dieting. Earlier too, she had won damages related to her weight issues. In 2007, she won damages against a British magazine, which had wrongly stated she had visited a diet doctor.
Associated Newspapers, owners of the Daily Mail, apologized for “any distress caused.”
At age 33, the titanic actress Kate Winslet became the youngest actor to receive six Academy Award nominations. In 2009, David Edelstein of New York Magazine hailed her as “the best English-speaking film actress of her generation.”
