Oct 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber has bagged another honor that most pop stars would probably never dream about. The ‘Baby’ star was handed a Los Angeles Lakers championship ring while attending the ring ceremony in the season opener of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Houston Rockets. Reports suggest that it was Jeanie Buss, the daughter of the team owner, who convinced Phil Jackson to allow Justin Bieber to wear the ring.

The Los Angeles Lakers also showed some great character in the opening game against the Houston Rockets. Considering that both Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics have shown off what they can do in the league, it was a crucial match for the Los Angeles Lakers as it would set the tone for the rest of the season. Trailing behind at 62-51 in the first half, the Los Angeles Lakers picked up their game in the second half. Going into the final quarter, the game was slated for an exciting finish as the Houston Rockets led 108-107 with almost 50 seconds left in the game. Things however fell apart for the Houston Rockets as Steve Blake made the ultimate three pointer to give an almost unassailable lead in the final seconds.

Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson said that his team was propelled by the rings that they received in the pre-game ceremony. He also added that they did not play in the right tempo in the first half and felt that the shooting was not up to the mark. The rings at the ceremony was handed to the players and the coach by the NBA commissioner David Stern who was accompanied by Jeanie Buss at the center of the court.
