London, Oct 15 (IANS) Hollywood actress Julia Roberts’ mother is recovering after undergoing an emergency surgery following a reported heart attack last month while her daughter was filming in India.
The “Pretty Woman” actress’ mother Betty, 75, was admitted to a hospital near her home in Atlanta, Georgia, where doctors performed an angioplasty procedure. Roberts was filming in India and had no idea about her mother’s health scare, reports imdb.com.

Roberts was only notified about it after her operation because the news allegedly took too long to filter through her heavy security.

“Julia was relieved to hear that her mother had undergone surgery and was recovering. But when she found out it took a day and a half for her family to get through her intense security, she absolutely exploded,” said a source.

“Betty was lucky to undergo the procedure when she did, because if she hadn’t, she could have died. The situation became even more dire when Julia’s family tried to reach her and couldn’t. Julia had no clue what was going on. By the time she got the news, her mother was stabilised and well into recovery,” the source added.

The shock reportedly left Roberts in tears and she reprimanded the film staff about the intense security on the set.

“Initially, Julia freaked out and began crying. Ultimately, she grew enraged when she found out how long it took her to get the news. Julia railed at them (movie crew), ‘When your own family can’t get through to you, that’s too much security! My mum could have been dead, and I might have been the last one in the world to know about it.’,” said another insider.

“Julia said she’d rather have no security at all than go through an episode like that again… She only calmed down when she talked to her mother herself, and was sure that she was out of the woods,” the insider added.

Roberts had been shooting for “Eat, Pray, Love” at Pataudi, in Haryana in India, and is now in Bali for more shoots.
