Julia Roberts to scrub temple floors Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) will play writer Elizabeth Gilbert whose spirituality memoir “Eat, Pray, Love” is reportedly being made into a feature film.
In the book with the tagline- “One woman’s search for everything across Italy, India, and Indonesia”, Pushcart Prize winner Gilbert scrubs the temple floors as part of her devotional duty; and it talks about her struggles with a 182-verse Sanskrit chant, her attempt to meditate while being feasted on by mosquitoes, etc.
A critic has defined it as “the worst in Western fetishization of Eastern thought and culture”. Production Company of Oscar nominated Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) will produce the film, which will be directed by Emmy nominated Ryan Murphy (Nip and Tuck). Other stars include Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Oscar nominated Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), etc.
Meanwhile, Hindus want that ashram (retreat) and other Hinduism objects should be depicted in authentic form in this upcoming film. Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement today, said that ashram was an important and integral part of Hinduism and misrepresentation would not be fair to Hindus and Hinduism, which was already quite misunderstood outside India.
Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that if the filmmaker needed any help concerning depiction of Hinduism, he or other Hindu leaders would be glad to assist.
