London, Oct 15 (ANI): Actress Julia Roberts’ mother is recovering after undergoing emergency angioplasty following a heart attack last month.

According to National Enquirer, Roberts’ 75-year-old mum Betty was admitted to a hospital near her home in Atlanta, Georgia, where doctors had to perform a surgery.

But Roberts, who is currently filming in India for her new film Eat, Pray and Love, had no idea about her mother’s surgery due to intense security and no cell phone coverage.

“Julia was relieved to hear that her mother had undergone surgery and was recovering. But when she found out it took a day and a half for her family to get through her intense security, she absolutely exploded,” the Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

“Betty was lucky to undergo the procedure when she did, because if she hadn’t, she could have died.

“The situation became even more dire when Julia’s family tried to reach her and couldn’t. Julia had no clue what was going on. By the time she got the news, her mother was stabilised and well into recovery,” the source added.

The ‘Pretty Woman’ star was reportedly left in tears after hearing the news and reprimanded the film staff about the intense security on set.

The insider adds, “Initially, Julia freaked out and began crying. Ultimately, she grew enraged when she found out how long it took her to get the news.

“Julia railed at them (movie crew), ‘When your own family can’t get through to you, that’s too much security! My mum could have been dead, and I might have been the last one in the world to know about it.’”

“Julia said she’d rather have no security at all than go through an episode like that again… She only calmed down when she talked to her mother herself, and was sure that she was out of the woods,” the insider added. (ANI)
