Julia Roberts movie ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ draws the ire of Hindus
March 22nd, 2010 - 10:23 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( 1 comment )Los Angeles, Mar 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Julia Roberts new movie – Eat, Pray, Love has managed to draw the ire of the Hindus, as they aren’t happy with the way the Hindus have been portrayed in the movie. The controversy arose, as the Hindus are miffed with the authenticity of their portrayal. Many of the Hindu traditions, rituals and beliefs have been wrongly portrayed in the movie, so the Hindus are unhappy.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed released a statement from Nevada, which said that, “Hinduism and its belief system were quite often incorrectly depicted outside India and he hoped that filmmakers in this case would stick to authentic traditions in order to avoid misrepresenting the already misunderstood religion, which was oldest and third largest in the world. Film, being a powerful medium, misrepresentation would not be fair to Hindus and Hinduism.”
Rajan Zed is also the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, and he also added that even though Hollywood is welcome to showcase the spirituality and the rich culture and the traditions of the Hindus, but all the same they ought to do in the correct manner. He also threw a gauntlet to the director of the movie Eat, Pray, Love when he said that if the director needs to know the correct Hindu traditions or anything related to the religion, then he would be glad to assist him in this regard.
