New York, Feb 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A judge spared Amber Portwood when he sent her to a rehab facility instead of jail. The court sent Portwood to the rehab facility in exchange of a five-year jail term.

TMZ reports that Portwood will have to complete the rehab program. She pleaded guilty to drug possession when she appeared before the court. Portwood will remain in jail as further checks are done on her.

TMZ reports that the evaluation could take up to a couple of weeks and Portwood will have to stay in jail during the period. The sentencing follows a plea deal that Portwood’s lawyers reached prosecutors last month.

The MTV “Teen Mom” star will only be released from jail after the rehab center accepts her into the program. The judge ruled that if her rehab program is successful, the charges against her will be completely wiped out. However if she fails, she will be sent back to jail to serve the sentence.

This is not the first time that Portwood will be getting into a rehab program. Last year, Portwood completed a rehab session at the Seasons Recovery Center in Malibu. The decision to enter the rehab facility followed her attempted suicide at that time.
