London, Nov 19 (ANI): Actor Jude Law and actress Keira Knightley were crowned king and queen of the big screen at the Variety Club Showbiz Awards on Oct 18.

The British stars were named Film Actor and Actress of the Year at the event at the London Hilton, reports the Daily Snack.

While Knightley won acclaim for her role in Atonement this year, Law received the honour despite lukewarm reviews for the film Sleuth, which is about to be released.

Other winners included Philip Glenister, who took TV performance of the year for Life on Mars and Michael Parkinson for outstanding contribution to showbusiness.

Variety board voted for all the awards, with the exception of Strictly Come Dancing, which beat Life on Mars, the X Factor and Any Dream Will Do to take best TV show.

Lee Mead bagged the award for Outstanding New Talent for his debut in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Lee Evans received the honour for Comedy, and Westlife for best Recording Artist.

The award for the Classical Performer of the Year went to Welsh star Katherine Jenkins.

David Suchet was honoured as the Stage Performance of the Year for his performance in The Last Confession, while Cabaret won the award for the best Musical Theatre, and Jerry Springer received the International award for his show on Sky One.

Knightley, Evans, Westlife, Myleene Klass, Strictly Come Dancing star Alesha Dixon and Louis Walsh were all expected to attend the event. Mead, Jenkins, and Westlife were all performing.

The awards show will air on Sky Three on November 24 and Sky One on November 25.
The TV Show category was voted by readers of the Daily Express newspaper. (ANI
