Jude Law London, Dec 24 (ANI): Jude Law has said that he was more than happy to play the reinvented Dr Watson in Guy Ritchie’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’.

Law’s portrayal as the detective’s sidekick in the modern take by the ‘Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels’ filmmaker Guy Ritchie has already been dubbed ‘Hotson’ by the press.

“When I was asked to get involved, Robert (Downey Jr) was already set as Sherlock and Guy was directing and I knew from then that it was going to be a different take on the older films of Sherlock Holmes,” the Mirror quoted Jude as saying.

“They weren’t asking me to put on two stone and fool around and put my foot in waste paper baskets, they were asking me to play Watson with a bit more edge,” he added.

“I hadn’t read the books as a boy, so what was intriguing was to see how much of this new ‘rediscovery’ was already in the source material,” said the actor, who turns 37 on December 29.

“It was a happy juggle between going back to Conan Doyle and relishing in all the accuracy that had perhaps been overlooked in the past, and also looking to the future and adding a new energy for an audience that we hope will discover Sherlock Holmes for the first time,” he added. (ANI)
