dr-noOct.22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dr. No is no more. Joseph Wiseman, the actor who played the role of the first villain in James Bond’s debut appearance, “Dr. No”, passed away on Monday. He was ninety one years old at the time of death.

Wiseman was born in Montreal. He moved to the United Stats when he was still pretty young. He had started acting when he was still a teenager. He got his first break in a show in Broadway. His career in films began with the movie “With These Hands”.He went on to assay various and myriad roles in other films. Under his belt, he has movies like “Detective Story” and “Les Miserables.” He had also taken part in a huge number of Broadway plays. He was best known for his role in the first Bond film “Dr. No”, where he played the sinister and scheming eponymous scientist. His final Broadway play was the 2001 edition of “Judgment at Nuremberg.”

Wiseman was never quite a name that everybody had heard. Even his best role, that of Dr. No, is remembered as the Bond adversary dressed in a Nehru jacket. Still, his talent is not one that can be ignored. Be it in front of the camera in films or television or performing before hundreds of people on the stage, he was equally at ease in every medium of public art.

Strangely enough, Wiseman never wanted people to remember him by any role he portrayed on television. A stage actor at heart, he wanted to be remembered as a theater personality.

Wiseman was suffering from declining health for quite some time before his death. His death is deeply mourned by his daughters Martha and Ruth Wiseman.
