Joni Mitchell’s dad passes away

Toronto, Jan 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Legendary singer Joni Mitchell has announced the passing away of her father. The Big Yellow Taxi star revealed that the father, William Anderson, passed away on the 15th of January 2012. He died in his sleep at his home in Saskatoon. He was 100 years old.

Anderson served in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served as a member of the marching band. After his retirement, Anderson opened a institution where he gave trumpet lessons.

Mitchell revealed that the father was buried on Monday at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. The singer released a statement on her personal website to announce the death of her father.

The statement read, “It is with sorrow that we relay the news of William Anderson’s passing - Joni’s father. Our sincere condolences to Joni and all those lives whom William has touched.”

Mitchell is no doubt one of the most talented Canadian stars. She has received eight Grammy award for her career achievements. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 but she failed to attend the ceremony. She announced that she will be leaving the music scene in 2002 but she has since brought out other albums, mostly compilations from her previous works.
