Jolie Denounces The Quran Burning Plan By Christian Church

September 9, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Angelina Jolie condemned the decision of a Florida Church to burn copies of the holy Quran as a way of marking the ninth anniversary of 9/11.
The 35 year old Jolie protested against the Quran burning idea while on a trip to Pakistan. She was visiting the flood devastated areas of this Muslim majority country. She had been acting in the capacity of a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugees.
Her criticism echoed the words of many US officials who had spoken against the church’s plan. They found it to be a disgraceful way to mark the day and warned that such an action could jeopardize the safety of the American troops in Afghanistan as well as those of the ordinary US citizens worldwide.
Jolie said that she has no words to describe such an action. She was speaking to the reporters at Islamabad after she returned from a visit to the northwest frontier province, the area worst hit by the floods in the region.
The minister Pastor Terry Jones who is the organizer of the Quran burning event said that he plans to go on with the event despite the protests. He is a member of the Dove World Outreach Center which is an evangelical Christian church located at Gainesville, Florida. It is known for its hard hitting, anti-Islam philosophy.
While shock and reactions of outrage have poured in from the Muslim nations across the world, Pakistan does not seem to be too concerned as of now. It is still trying to cope with the flood situation within its boundaries which is its primary focus for now.
