Johnny Weir Rejected For “Stars On Ice”

Mar 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Johnny Weir, the three time champion of figure skating in the United States, has not been allowed to take part in a television show that is supposed to be based on the sport that he has mastered so well. However, the reason that has been stated for the rejection does not seem to be convincing enough to a large part of the observers, and also to the figure skater himself, and most importantly, to the GLAAD, or the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, as can be gleaned from the blog of one of the bloggers of the organization, Lauren Mattia.
According to GLADD, the sponsors of the show “Stars On Ice,” Smuckers and IMG Entertainment, had not allowed the renowned figure skater by citing the reason of his not being “family friendly” enough to be a part of the show. The organization took this to be a direct jab at the sexual orientation of the figure skater, countering the attack by saying that Johnny Weir was an amazingly family friendly man, citing examples of his devotion towards his family in support of their statements.
Johnny Weir himself commented that he was not able to understand the reason of his rejection. He commented that he might be known to speak his mind a little more than the others, but assured that the trait does not make him any less family friendly. He also said that although his agents had approached the producers of Stars on Ice many times now, they have never been given the nod. The authorities of the show, on the other hand, denied that they had stated any such reason, claiming that the GLAAD had received erroneous reports.

We do not need our children idolizing Gays. He may be a Champion, but his sexual orientation should not be an example to follow for children.
Don’t let him be part of the show!

He sounds like a little girl complaining he did not get picked! Suck it up you big Sissy! GLADD is just trying to give a perception that Weir has been wronged, when in reality they just want to spread their twisted propoganda!

If the majority of the people don’t want to see him it won’t happen. It’s about sponsors and viewers, not art.

you don’t need your children idolizing Gays????? ohhh you must be one of those… we are all one people… there are many straight people are there doing things that are just insane,.. maybe if you open your eyes … and look around the world out of your window.. u’ll see.. anyways this blog is not about this … but you just …ash…

Oh, for Pete’s Sake! What a bunch of narrow-minded scaredy cats #2 and #3 are exhibiting! Those “children” that you’re protecting from “The Gays”, could very well grow up, on their own, to become G.A.Y.! ~gasp~ Johnny was a child at one time and grew up gay; you should be teaching your children compassion and understanding of the entire planet and all the beauty in diversity. That’s how I’m raising MY children and they aren’t afraid of the Big Bad Gay, either.

And this is why I don’t normally read these uneducated comments - let alone write one. “Modulor” did you actually get through Junior High School?? LMFAO. Can you spell “GED”? LOL.

I know! Let’s get Tiger Woods and Gov. Mark Sanford to be in Stars on Ice! They’re STRAIGHT so they obviously are leading the kinds of lives that our sons should use as a model, correct? Via la Straight Guys and their Role Model Ways.

I’m not bashing anybody so before you say I am doing that you should consider this…..EVERYONE has a right to their own opinion. I don’t judge people and I don’t expect them to judge me. If they do then they are judging. Leave it alone and live your life.

I thought all male skaters were gay. What’s the big deal.

Ahhhh yes, modern bigots fail to see the fatal flaw in their thinking as related to the lessons of history. “We do not need our children idolizing gays…” Depending on where you fall on the timeline of history, just know our decedents will judge you like we judge our predecessors for bigoted attitudes towards minorities, immigrants, women, and certain religious affiliations. Just so I understand your argument, you feel that it would be worse for a child to idolize a positive functional member of society if that person were gay, than it would be for a child to idolize a straight member of society who is totally dysfunctional. Yes, sexual orientation should be the main criteria for role model consideration because “gay” is the WORST thing a kid could be… I’d much rather have my kid grow up to be gay than to, well let’s say, grow up to be a straight, bigoted, ignorant, judgmental, hypocrite who posts on blogs walls and spreads hatred based upon a book written by likeminded folk millennia ago…. Time to evolve. I won’t judge, some people are just socially retarded (meaning they are slow on the uptake)

Johnny Weir isn’t the only gay figure skater. There have been gay skaters before him and there will be gay skaters after him. I really don’t think it’s his sexual orientation keeping him from doing Stars On Ice. I think its the fact he doesn’t think about what he says before saying it.

I think Johnny is too big of a star to join Stars on Ice. If he did he would steal the show and make the other skaters feel small. I think he should do his own show so he can do something different and I’m sure more fantastic and fun to watch than the pretty boring Stars on Ice.

Too bad for him.
When you push your sexuality in the feces of people who are not interested or don’t like it, prepare to pay the price somewhere down the line. Same goes for Adam Lambert, too.
Start your own act, boys.

Ummmm…aren’t at least half the male singles ice skaters gay? Maybe these companies should go sponsor a football game instead….
March 15th, 2010 at 5:05 am
Perhaps Lady Gaga and Johnny can start their OWN “Stars on Ice!” It would sure be a lot more fun than those sanitized versions of “Wings” or Disney songs they slog through, currently!

I have the right to state my opinions just like all of you. If you don’t like it, then DO NOT READ my response :)
Very simple.
I read yours and could CARE LESS if it offends you. Last time I checked there was still Freedom of Speech in this Country.

“I have the right to state my opinions just like all of you…” Perhaps. Although some of us realize that such a freedom comes with a responsibility. The very principle that provides you that “right” is rooted in and tied directly to the equality of humankind. Your desire to oppress or allow the oppression of a population means that you do not realize the connection between your freedom and theirs. It is symbiotic. Unfortunately for those of us who understand that what effects one of us can affect all of us, we have to exist in the same space as those who are too myopic to understand this concept. Therefore, we must tolerate those individuals would sit and do nothing, or even advocate the oppression of another person based upon something as trivial as sexual orientation. We tolerate it so that we don’t fall victim to the same line of flawed thinking as they. Before you go hiding behind your “rights” try looking at them as “responsibilities” instead. What you say has ripples and impact. This life pond is small. What you put out will come back.

With apologies to Pastor Niemoller, I’m going to update his famous poem:
“THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.
THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
THEN THEY CAME for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.
THEN THEY CAME for the Gays, and I didn’t speak up because I was straight.
THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.”

What do they think he’s going to do, grab another male skater and kiss him right on the ice? Oh wait, Adam already did that on stage. Johnny is there to skate and he’s good at it…VERY good!

Tristen: Well, you know “The Gays”, absolutely NO impulse control! LOL Unlike “funny uncles” or other straight males that we no longer need to fear…not!
