Johnny Depp To Play ‘Tonto’ In “The Lone Ranger”

Johnny DeppJan 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After getting infamous with his Captain Jack Sparrow image, Johnny Depp is all set to act in the film version of “The Lone Ranger”. The actor whom the makers have given the first preference for the character of Tonto says that he intends to play the role. On a recent occasion the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star said that he is still planning to play the role of the trustworthy aide of the super-hero in the comic-action flick.

The big screen version of “The Lone Ranger” will be produced under the banner of Disney by Jerry Bruckheimer. The project is expected to rock at the box-office since the direction will be given by none other than Gore Verbinski, whose is the original “Pirates of the Caribbean” director. The originally radio and then television show became a huge hit with the action hero “The Lone Ranger” who is the typical masked Texas Ranger set in the old West- American background along with his aide Tonto which was originally played by Jay Silverheels in the television series. Tonto is the closest friend of “The Lone Ranger” and acts as a major sources of fun in the story. Tonto who is the typical native American character to whom the Hollywood super star will certainly do justice to.

Johnny Depp who himself is partially Cherokee is undoubtedly the best choice for the role. The actor said that somewhere he feels a special bonding with Tonto whose character reminds one of Sancho Panza, the trustworthy aide of the legendary Don Quixote. The actor, however, was seen telling that Native American character till now have been portrayed wrongly in Hollywood movies, to which he plans to do justice when he dons the role of Tonto.
