Oct 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The director of the “Die Hard” movies, John McTiernan has been sentenced to a year in prison after being found guilty of lying during the wiretapping investigation of the Hollywood private investigator, Anthony Pellicano.

He was also order by the federal judge in the case to pay a one hundred thousand dollar fine. He will be allowed to post bail, pending his appeal. His defense attorneys were hoping for a sentence of three year’s probation, as he pleaded guilty in July to both counts of “making false statements to the FBI.”

The 59 year old also pleaded guilty to a count of perjury, when he lied to a federal judge and tried to withdraw his plea of guilty.

Pellicano was found guilty back in 2008 of wiretapping the film producer Charles Roven, after being hired to do so by John McTiernan. He also bugged phones which belonged to celebrities, and other people without permission in order to get information for his clients. Pellicano received a fifteen year sentence in a federal prison.

Among other movies which were directed by John McTiernan are, “The Thomas Crown Affair,” “The Hunt for Red October” and “Predator.”
