john5 New York, Jun 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The handwritten note, which has the lyrics of a hit Beatles song written on it, by John Lennon was auctioned. And it managed to fetch a whooping $1.2 million in the Sotheby’s auction, which was held at New York. Prior to the auction the note was the property of the Beatles road manager Mal Evans. Sotheby had advertised the note as, “rare glimpse into the Beatles’ songwriting dynamic”.

The lyrics are for the controversial song ‘A Day In The Life’. This song was featured as the final track of the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. This song was at the top of the music charts in Britain for 27 weeks. When the album was released in 1967, then it had caused a huge controversy, because of the lyrics.

The auctioned note consists of a double-sided paper on which it is written ‘I read the news today oh boy’ in capitals along with the lyrics of song. And on top of that there are numerous cross-outs and corrections as well. The pre-sale estimate of the auctioned note was just 470,000 pounds, but the legendary note managed to be auctioned off, for almost double the amount.
