John Hughes: A Final Tribute

For all those who are nostalgic about the great hits of John Hughes directed movies of the 80s, Startz and Encore will pay tribute to the director-cum-writer and producer, by telecasting his movies on Sunday at 8pm and 9:35pm playing Sixteen Candles starring Molly Ringwald, who depicts the teenage angst about which Hughes movies were usually about. Following this will be Weird Science (1985) which deals with two nerds (Anthony Michael Hall and IIan Mittchell Smith) who take painstaking efforts to bring to life a beautiful woman with whom they intend to go on “a wild ride”.
This is done via powerful computers and the movie stars Bill Paxton and Robert Downey Jr.
John Hughesr died of a heart attack in New York lately. There are other tributes being paid by “gamers” as Pretty in Pink PC game were published by Legacy Interactive. Pearson paid homage to Hughes by using characters from Hughes’ “The Loners” to chart out iconic posters enthused with the “teenage angst” representing the thematic essence of Hughes movies.
41 year old Molly Ringwald is reported to have said that the director will be an ” important part” of her life. She added that she was “stunned and incredibly sad” of the unexpected demise. “He will be missed by me and by every one that he has touched. My heart and all my thoughts are with his family now.”
The other movies of this genre are The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Pretty In Pink.
Cryer the outcast Duckie Dale in Pretty In Pink said that he “was an amazing man to work for and with”.
Hughes high-school based films especially appealed to the younger generation.
