Mar 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Just like the contestants on “American Idol,” Joe Dioguardi needs America’s vote to win, although he may already have at least one of the American Idol judges on his side. He has announced his intention to run for the Senate seat held by Kirsten Gillibrand.

Joe Diogruardi is the father of Kara Dioguardi, the American Idol judge, and songwriter. He is also a former Westchester congressman, who told reporters at a press conference in Grand Central Terminal, “If you don’t know who I am, ask my daughter.” Kara had nothing but good to say about her dad. She told CNN that he is “somebody who works hard when he believes in something.”

“She’ll do anything she thinks is appropriate to help,” said Joe DioGuardi, 69. She is expected to be with him at an event in the city on Friday, but he said that he does understand that her hectic schedule will limit how much she can be with him on the campaign trail. He did seem to get aggravated at all of the “Idol” questions and ended the conference with the words, “Kara is not running for Senate, I am.”
