Los Angeles, Mar 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Gilbert Gottfried has offered his apologies for the jokes he made on Japan following the earthquake.

The jokes proved to be one of the most expensive for Gilbert because he got fired from his job at Aflac after that. Joan Rivers was one of the personalities who first jumped into the defense of Gilbert.

Joan did not understand why Gilbert should be fired for doing what he knows best-making people laugh. Joan tweeted that, “Oh come on people - this is just outrageous! Gilbert Gottfried was FIRED from Aflac for making jokes about the tsunami in Japan. That’s what comedians do!!! We react to tragedy by making jokes to help people in tough times feel better through laughter.”

That is not what Aflac believes. In the statement that announced Gilbert’s firing, the company distanced itself from the comments and expressed their condolence and support to victims in Japan.

Gilbert nonetheless has rendered his apologies for the comments. In the tweet on Tuesday to apologize for the jokes, Gilbert said that he didn’t mean to ‘disrespect’ anybody and was particularly sorry to anyone who was hurt by the jokes.
