September 2, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Who says celebrities do not like giving back? Author of the famous Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling has donated $15.4 million to set up a center to research Multiple Sclerosis, which resulted in her mother’s demise. The new Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, named after the author’s mother will be based at Edinburg in Scotland.
This facility will be used to research the cures for degenerative neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s that claim the lives of millions over the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Rowling said she hopes that the clinic becomes world center for excellence in the field of regenerative neurology. Rowling is a long time resident of Edinburgh and she wrote her first harry Potter book in the Scottish capital. Rowling said that the city has given her a lot when she was unknown to the world and this is her way of give something meaningful back to the city.
Right now Multiple Sclerosis affects 100.000 people in Britain and Scotland and kills many people throughout the world. The causes of the disease are not fully known and this makes it even more difficult to curb the progress of the deadly disease. Rowling is truly one of those celebrities who go beyond the façade and try to make the difference in the real sense of the term.
