undercoverSep 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Wednesday night NBC aired the premier episode of its brand new spy drama series titled “Undercovers” that has Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as its leading pair who portray the role of Steven and Samantha Bloom. A spy series created by J.J. Abrams who has to his credit shows like “Lost” tried to bring on screen the spy drama that bore similarity with spy dramas like “Mr and Mrs. Smith”. While there is no denying the fact that every J.J. Abrams creation has its own way of amusing the viewers, the Wednesday night premier of “Undercovers” failed to strike the right cord according to many critics.

The first episode of the series showed Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Steven and Samantha Bloom, CIA spies who had left their respective jobs to get hitched. However, after five years of marriage, the couple that runs a catering business is leading a life of idleness. At such a point in their life, they are called back to duty by a CIA officer for a special case. Being the premier of the show, it was able to hold on to the interest of the people. However, few will deny the fact that the similarity with “Mr and Mrs. Smith” was hard to ignore. “Undercovers” came up with some flashy locations and grand setting.

However, many critics voiced that “Undercovers” lacked the intelligent quotient and seemed to be following the same story line which had been followed by many others in past. As for the other aspects of the “Undercovers” premier, the dialogues failed to impress and the exaggerated fight scenes seemed a way too much escapist.
