Jimmy Kimmel to host White House Press dinner

Washington, Nov 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) TV personality Jimmy Kimmel has been tasked with hosting the White House Press Dinner next year. The talk show host was selected by the White House Correspondents’ Association to host the prestigious dinner which will be held in April next year.

The organizers of the event say the proceeds that will be realized from the dinner will be used to fund up and coming journalists. Traditionally, the sitting President and the First Lady are the special guests during the dinner. President Barack Obama famously hit back at the group which questioned his birth certificate during the event this year.

The 2012 event will be the 98th edition of the dinner which is regarded as one of the most important events for the US press.

Announcing the host for the 2012 event, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association Caren Bohan said that, “Jimmy’s humor is sophisticated and edgy while appealing to a wide audience.”

Other journalists who have hosted the event in the past include Jay Leno and Seth Meyers. At the event, the press and the President gets the chance to throw jabs at each other. With Kimmel as the host, President Obama will surely be bracing himself up.

Kimmel is the host of the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!.”
