June 14, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The versatile country singer, Jimmy Dean, who is also known as a television host, actor and businessman, has passed away on Sunday night at the age of 81. He took his last breath at his home in Varina, Virginia.
His success as a sausage pitchman will be cherished by his fans. He died naturally without suffering from any kind of illness.
Jimmy Dean’s first mark in Hollywood was in country music. His numbers became super hit and topped in the country charts in 1961. The song “Big Bad John’ took him to the top, which is about a strange, Paul Bunyan-esque coal miner.
The song was penned by country star Roy Acuff, which sold in million and earned a Grammy in 1962 for Best Country and Western Recording. It also saved him from being dropped by his label, Columbia Records.
Jimmy was also seen acting in the NBC series “Daniel Boone’ in the late 1960s. Here he essayed the role of Boone’s friend, Josh Clements. In 1971, Dean was seen playing the role of Willard Whyte, the ally of Bond in Diamonds Are Forever.
It is reported that Jimmy grew up slaughtering pigs at his family farm. He started the Jimmy Dean Meat Company in 1969, which turned to be an instant profitable business for him. He earned over $75 million from this business.
We wish the soul of this versatile personality rests in peace!
