Jimi Hendrix’s UK home to open for exhibition
May 17th, 2010 - 5:50 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 17 (ANI): Music fans all over the world will have a special opportunity to commemorate Jimi Hendrix’s 40th death anniversary, as his UK home will be opened for exhibition.
Hosted by the Handel House Museum at 25 Brook Street, the exhibition will feature handwritten lyrics, clothing and other memorabilia that will give visitors a peek into the famous guitarist’s life and career.
It will also feature images and film clips to trace his rise to fame.
Hendrix, who moved to the Brook Street flat with his English girlfriend Kathy Etchingham, died on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27.
He was known to entertain many of his friends while living there.
Open only for guided tours on rare occasions, the Handel House Museum staff - who use the place as admin office - will be shifted out temporarily to allow fans to get a close glimpse of the famed star on his 40th death anniversary.
“We are excited to be celebrating the life of Jimi Hendrix.
“After moving to Brook Street in 1968, Hendrix learned of the Handel connection with the building and headed to One Stop Records in South Molton Street and HMV in Oxford Street to pick up whichever records of Handel music he could find,” The Mirror quoted Sarah Bardwell, director of Handel House Museum, as saying.
