London, April 15 (ANI): Martial arts star Jet Li was honoured with the best actor prize at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance in the film The Warlords.

“If I had not made a lot of kung fu films, I could have won the best actor award 20 years ago,” the BBC quoted the 44-year-old star as saying.

This award was one of the eight gongs that the period epic won, which was named best film at the event, with another prize going to its director Peter Chan.

The Warlords was also recognised for its cinematography, art direction and special effects.

Li beat his co-star Andy Lau to bag the best actor prize.

However, Lau did not go home empty-handed, for he was conferred the best supporting actor award for gangster thriller Protege.

Ang Lee’s erotic wartime thriller Lust, Caution was named best Asian film.

The best actress award went to Siqin Gaowa for her role opposite Chow Yun-Fat in quirky comedy The Postmodern Life of My Aunt.

Jet Li will next appear alongside Jackie Chan in action adventure The Forbidden Kingdom. (ANI)
