Jennifer Hudson has a new role to play that of a proud mother to her son David Daniel Otunga Jr. The 27 year old American Idol season 3 finalist, Academy Award winner and Grammy Award winning singer gave birth to her first child on Monday. She named her son after her fiance David Otunga.

The baby weighed 7 pounds and 14 ounces. The news was confirmed by her publicist, Lisa Kasteler of WKT Public Relations. “The baby is beautiful and perfect. His parents are ecstatic,” says Lisa.

Jennifer had never confirmed her pregnancy before nor did she deny it. Hudson met David Otunga, a Harvard Law graduate. He had appeared as “Punk” from “I Love New York 2″. Six months later on Hudson’s 27th birthday, he proposed marriage. The couple had not even been dating six months and the news was met with apprehension by her family. Otunga accompanied Hudson throughout Spring and Autumn 2008 on various promotional events for her debut album.

Jennifer Hudson, the Academy Award winner for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Effie n “Dreamgirls” in 2007, had suffered a tragic blow last fall when her mother, brother and nephew were brutally murdered in her native Chicago. Her sister’s estranged husband is charged with the killings.

Hudson stepped down from the limelight soon after the murders in her family. She resumed her public appearances after three months in 2009, and has performed at the Super Bowl XLIII, the Grammy Awards, American Idol, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Hudson has been also been described as a friend of President BarrackObama.

The good news of her son’s birth must have brought back some of the lost happiness in her life. She surely deserves a hearty congratulation from one and all.
