Jeniffer Jones Revisited On TCM

After a considerable amount of time, the classic movie buffs got to revisit the works of Jeniffer Jones, the Academy Award winning actress of the 1940’s as Turner Classic Movies featured a tribute to the actress, who turned 90 this year.

Jeniffer Jones, the romantic leading lady of the 1940’s and 1950’s has been known for her outstanding performances that depicted her stupendous ability of nurturing a character. She basically starred as the romantic leading lady of that era, enthralling the mass with each and every performance of hers.

Movie buffs, who are into classic fairy tale love stories, simply loved to revisit the golden era of Hollywood, as TCM provided them with a wide array of movies that included Jeniffer Jones as the leading lady. The movies that were shown yesterday included ‘Beat The Devil’, ‘Madam Bovary’, ‘We Were Strangers’, ‘Ruby Gentry’, ‘Indiscretion of an American Wife’, ‘The Barrettes of Wimpole Street’, ‘Since You Went Away’, ‘Love Letters’, ‘Portrait Of Jeannie’, ‘Beat The Devil’, ‘Good Morning Miss Dove’ and ‘Duel With The Sun’. In real life the actress was married to David O. Selznick, who is said to have produced many of her pictures.

Jeniffer, whose actual name was Phylis Lee Isley, was carefully groomed for stardom and was reportedly provided with the name she is known with. It is said that director Henry King was reportedly impressed by her screen test as St. Bernadette for the movie “Song Of Bernadette”. The actress did put up a stupendous performance in the movie which won her the much coveted Academy Award for the best actress in the year 1944.

The reprisal of the classics had certainly made a day for her fans and classic movie buffs. The legacy of the leading lady still lingers in our soul.
