Santa Ana, Dec 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The fans of Charles “Mask” Lewis were shocked when the mixed martial arts artist’s car crashed at Newport Beach street last year. The accident claimed Charles Lewis’ life which left his fans and family mourning. However, after 20 months of that unfortunate incident, the driver, Jeffrey David Kirby, who prosecutors say was the prime reason behind Charles Lewis’ death headed for trail on Monday at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. Deputy District Attorney Jason Baez at last said that Charles Lewis was driving at a high speed at the time of the accident and could not control the speed of his car.
However, there were a series of arguments on the court, like the prosecutors said that Jeffrey David Kirby, 53, was going towards south of Jamboree around 11 a.m. on March 11, 2009 and suddenly he lost control of his car and crashed into Charles Lewis’ red Ferrari. The police checked Jeffrey David Kirby’s blood level just two hours after the crash and it measured 0.13%, which is above 0.08% legal limit. Jeffrey David Kirby was convicted for driving under influence.
Jeffrey David Kirby’s defense attorney Mark Fredrick argued that his client was not speeding his car that night and he was not next to Charles Lewis. The defense attorney, on the other hand said that the renowned mixed martial artist’s car was stopped at a red light at the bottom of a hill and his client just drove past the car. However, after sometime Jeffrey David Kirby realized that Charles Lewis’ car was coming from behind and trying to swerve out of the way. Jeffrey David Kirby is charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while intoxicated. He also faces felony driving under alcohol influence causing bodily injury. His trial began on Tuesday.
