jeff2Los Angeles, Jan 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Veteran actor Jeff Bridges received the Golden Globe best actor award for his outstanding performance in the movie ‘Crazy Heart‘, in the award ceremony that was held on Sunday night. In order to win the much coveted award, the 60 year old actor had to beat George Clooney, who was also nominated in the category and many had presumed that the ‘Up In The Air’ actor would take home the award. However, ultimately it was the ‘Crazy Heart’ star who was declared the winner and managed to take home his first Golden globe trophy.

As Jeff Bridges went on stage to receive the best actor award, he was honored with a huge standing ovation from the audience. The actor dedicated the award to his wife and children and at the same time added the honor was ending his under-appreciated status. Moreover, the honor was all the more special for the much acclaimed actor as this was the first time that the actor managed to bag the award despite the fact that he received nominations in three previous occasions.

However, the honor bestowed on Jeff Bridges did not come as a surprise, as the actor gave a splendid performance while edging the role of an alcoholic country musician in the Scott Cooper directed movie. At the same time, the win greatly escalated the possibility of the actor bagging the Oscars this year.

Moreover, the other actors who had been nominated in the best actor category included George Clooney for “Up in the Air,” Tobey Maguire for “Brothers”, Morgan Freeman for “Invictus” and Colin Firth for “A Single Man”.
