Jeff Bridges Slapped With $24,000 Tax Lien

May 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Jeff Bridges, who gave a nine minute thank you/acceptance speech when he won the Oscars for Best Actor, has just been hit by the IRS with a 24 thousand dollar tax lien. The lien traces back to the years 2002 and 2004, which was, of course, before he won the Oscar.
Exactly a month after the actor won his Academy Award, the IRS filed a lien with the Los Angeles County Recorder for $23,997 on April 7. Jeff Bridges allegedly owes the money for federal employment taxes, basically meaning he did not pay taxes for those two years. The address on the lien is a Los Angeles Office Building, not the actor’s swanky home in Santa Barbara, California.
According to publicist Jean Sievers stated that the matter was resolved in February and that Bridges paid “significantly less” than the amount that it was claimed that he owed. “However, for some reason there was some delay in communication between the department that resolved the tax matter and the collection department,” Sievers said. Since there was a delay, this caused the lien to be filed last month, she claims. However, the lien had not been released this afternoon, according to the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds office. “The IRS screwed it up,” Sievers said. “It’s so funny. The IRS screws it up and he ends up owing less than what was on the lien.”
